Club swinging has long been part of the Indian and Persian  fitness culture.  "Modern" Indian Club Swinging was brought over to the UK in the 19th century by those stationed in India and inspired by the graceful physiques of the wrestlers there.  Before long, the clubs were smaller and had been well integrated into the physical education systems of the time.  Indian Clubs would have been found in gyms alongside boxing and fencing equipment.  They were also introduced into school Physical Education classes & for military training and became a popular form of group exercise.

They are a perfect tool for developing strength, poise, co-ordination and grace.
